Any one that is interested I currently have 30 tons of New England wood pellets in stock and more on the way for pick up or delivery in the Central New York Area. Prices are $235 pick up per ton, 1 ton delivered $255, 2 tons delivered $251 per ton, 3 tons delivered $248 per ton, 4 tons delivered $246 per ton. The company name is Meneilly’s Woodland Products and the phone number is 1-315-675-3530.
I apologize ahead of time if I should not be posting advertising on here but I was reading that people are still having a hard time getting product and we do have a supply at the moment. We were told that we will be cut off again by the plant in just over a month.
Also has any one had any problems with Regency stoves burning pellets?

    • Dave says:

sept 13,09 is this price still good, delivery to chittenango? 2 tons will do fine thanks in advance.

    • Clare says:

Do you still have New England Pellets for sale? I can use 8 tons. I live in Yonkers, NY

    • darlene baker says:

      Hi Mr. Meneilly,
We purchased from you last year and we have tried several times to get a cost. Do you have two ton left? Please call me at 425-2769-work or Bob’s cell 657-6908. Thanks and I hope you are doing well.

Ihave been burning a pellet stove since 1992. I started with Stove Chow pellets and burned them for many years. They burned great but I think they went out of business. I then started burning New England Wood Pellets and they were great at first but over the last 2 years I find they do not burn as well anymore and other people have told me the same thing. I bought some Spruce Point Pellets this past year from Agway and I think they are the best burning pellets that I have tried in a long time. They have more sawdust in the bag but burn hot and with very little ash. I would use these pellets again.

    • jjh says:

I have a Quadrafire Stove . I used New England pellets for the last 4 yrs. they worked good untill this yr. lots of ash and not much heat and more clean up . I though there was something rong with my stove, untill I bought a ton of Stove Chow from home depot what a difference ! the Stove Chow burned much hotter with alot less ash . I will try not to use New England pellets again

      • Agreed. NE wood pellets are horrible now. I’ve burned them before, but this year they are junk. Poor heat, and soot. My Quadra-Fire stove glass is black after 1 bag. Lots of ash, and the long pellets clog up the auger. Factory tells me that they will send me a bag for test sample, but that never came I’m sticking with Sams Club and Home depot pellets.

    • solas says:

NE Wood Pellets are just terrible now. Great for first few years and now total crap. I actually have bags I can’t even sell. And the pellets are so long they get jammed in my stove weekly. DO NOT BUY! Best ever: LG (bags are clear, so you really see what you are getting, a company unafraid for you to see the quality of the pellet) and Clean Fire!

  4. brian says:

BURNED 1/2 TON OF NEW ENGLAND AND THEY WERE BAD. SOLD THE REST SAVE YOUR MONEY BUY ANOTHER BRAND

  5. Kermit says:

I burned a few bags of these, from Schyler NY, bought ~April 09 and found them to be fine (Quadrafire stove). But, my wife was allergic to them! I suspect there is a strong cedar content? Thats what they smelled like, and what she reacts to. Wont use them again for that reason. Just another thing to be aware of.

  6. MapleMan says:

First time with the pellet stove and first time buying New England pellets. I bought 3 tons and thought they where fine. That is until I ran out and bought some Tidy Timbers from Lowes to finish the season. I could not believe the difference in heat!!! The Tidy Timbers burned much hotter and really warmed the house. I will not use New England pellets again!

  7. Mike says:

I have tried several different wood pellets and keep coming back to New England Wood Pellets. I find these pellets to burn the best with the least ash which of course means less clean up. The heat generated by these pellets gave me a longer lasting burn with great heat.

  8. Alex says:

I inquired at my pelet dealer about teh specifications of teh NWWp pellets and they didnlt have any answers for me. Notice that even the bag doesn’t have the specs on it (ash%, moisture%, chloride, btu/hr spec). How they get away with calling it premum (implying 1% or less ash) is sheer fraud!

  9. Alex says:

I inquired at my pellet dealer about the specifications of NEWP premium pellets but they didn’t have any answers for me. Notice that the bag doesn’t have the specs on it (ash%, moisture%, chloride, btu/hr spec). The product is labeled premium (implying 1% or less ash).

FYI – Today, I received a call back from the manufacturer and the specs are:

    0.4 – 0.6 ash %
    2 – 4 % moisture
    7800-8000 btu/hr @3% moisture
no spec on chlorine content but they don’t use chlorine in their manufacturing process

    stay warm!!!

Anyone have any comments on Inferno wood pellets

    • Keith says:

First winter with a pellet stove , bought 2 ton of Inferno pellets from dealer. I have gone thru 1 ton in 2 months, burning 4:30PM- 7:30AM. Starting to look around for more pellets- HD & Lowes. I clean stove once a week, but empty burn pot on a daly basis, for greater heat.
Paid 269.00 @ ton plus deliver. Lots of choices out there ??

    • bruce says:

I have only one thing to say about Inferno pellets.I’ve tried several brands of so called premium pellets and these are by far one of the worst i have used.

      • Seleus says:

I will second that. Inferno are crap sorry…lol the worse of the worse!

        • dave says:

same here. Inferno have been the worst brand I have ever used. I want to know what the hell they do to make these things. I burn through a bunch more than I am used to, clean my stove daily and have issues now with my auger turning. I am suspicious of the caked up slag the burning leaves behind. I have burned through just about 2 tons and it is only mid-January. Last 2 seasons, I burned 2 tons the whole season… need to buy more, but not Inferno.

  11. mike says:

Just An OK Pellet, Alot Of Clinkers, Heat Output Was Good, Ash Was minimal, But Just An OK pellet, Would i purchase again, maybe in a pinch, But Given the choice i would get barefoot pellets over all other brands of wood pellets.

  12. Roy J says:

I have been burning NEWP this year for the first time. As I have only owned my stove for onew year now. I am not have any issues, no clinkers, and low ash. I see some people have issues, wondering if the stove quality along with the wood pellets is part of the whole story. I burned Barefoot Pellets last year, but decided to use NEWP due to lower price and no delivery charge from my local hardware dealer. I really see no difference between the two, but so far it has been a mild season.

    • Erin Sassaman says:

Hi, just wanted to report my experience with both Barefoot and New England. Barefoot’s pellets are exceptionally long and I often experienced jams. I have a Quadrafire Mt Vernon, top of the line stove. I also noticed it was not burning as hot (at all) and also created a lot more ash. I have only used New England, other than the Barefoot and I would highly rec! The heat output is significant and the ash output is very very low. I’m currently look to explore other options, but New England has done right by me!

  13. Michael Thompson says:

This is my second year with my Harman pellet stove. I burned 4 different kinds of hardwood premium pellets last year from Home depot, Lowes, and Tractor supply. I got 2 tons on New England pellets this year and can’t wait for them to be gone. Last year I had no carbon build up at all in my burn pot and had to empty my vent pipe once. This year I have already had to empty my vent pipe and scrape carbon off my burn pot and auger 4 times and i have only burned 30 bags. I know what you are thinking. Could it be the stove? I thought that too at first. So I went and bought some hardwood pellets at home depot and they burned hotter and a lot cleaner. If you are thinking of buying a ton of New England wood pellets buy some bags first and test them out!!!

  15. Jim Krupp says:

I had trouble this year with my stove using the NE wood pellets. The pellets wouldn’t go through the auger fast enough and the fire kept going out. Bought one bag from Home Depot and the stove is atleast working and providing some heat. Would some one like to buy my 96 bags of New England wood pellets??

  16. Ryan says:

New England wood Pellets are easily the worst pellets that I have ever burned. The ash was so bad and so hard that it would put my fire out and I could not keep my fire burning. My dealer that sells them in CT told me that he was having nothing but problems with the New england Brand and has had problems with them for quite some time. He also stated that he will not be carrying them next year as a result. I called the Manufacturer in New Hampshire where these pellets were made and the man told me that I was just too fussy. This pellet actually smells good but is nothing but problems (kinda like Brittant Spears).

  17. brian says:

i bought 1 ton last year and they were terrible, no heat lots of clinkers. i live nearby where they built there new plant in schuyler, ny i thought it would be nice to buy a local product no way i will pay more per ton for uncle jeds and get tons of heat not tons of ash

  18. Jean-Marc says:

I have 1 ton of Dry Creek from last year and 2 tons of New England pellets. By far, the Dry Creek pellets are much better (more heat, less and very little ash). I don’t like them at all. Where can I get the Dry Creek pellets bags near Carmel, NY. Thanks

  19. Mark Kimball says:

I’ve had my Harman Accentra for 6 years now. I’ve had Lew bring me 5 tons for the 3rd year in a row. This year, and at the end of last season, I began to have problems with my unit. I always do an extremely thorough job of cleaning my stove. Cleaned it last Sunday – 8 days later, the carbon buildup is unbelieveable !!! My auger is greaking and groaning – and my feed mechanism is really laboring to do it’s job. I literally tore down my stove to bits and went over it with a fine toothed comb. It’s THE PELLETS!!! You can smell the softwoods in them, just like the end of last years run. I KNOW what Spruce, Hemlock, Cedar , Larch, and White Pine smell like. I’m stuck with the remaining 3-1/2 tons I have left, but next year New England won’t get a dime of my money. Lew is a super guy to deal with – he can’t control the product.

    • Mike says:

Have you used graffite on your auger(s)? I know mine needs it about once a month and it really makes a difference. Also it’s recommended by the mfr. (KC Cornbuner) Using pellets though for the second year. A great furnace!!!

  20. Don Bradway says:

Pellets out of NEW YORK are junk i have used your pellets for 5 years but you lost a customer!

  21. Don Bradway says:

  22. Steven Kenyon says:

I have a Harmon pellet stove and have benn buring pellets for 5 years now. I burned many varities of pellets in it. New Englands are by far the worst. As other people have indicated, I also gets lots of ash and large amounts of carbon/slag build up in the burn pot. After 10 bags of New Englands the burn pot has to be cleaned, it’s like chizeling off cemet when trying to get the carbon buildup off. WHen I first started burning New Englands a few years ago I did not have these issues. It seems the last couple of years their quality has degraded. I would be very interested in seeing their quality control test results over the last few years. Something has definately changed.

    • David says:

Disappointed to hear this comment by Steve after I just posted this below to the NE Pellet Co website to see if they will respond:

Last season I was very disappointed with the quality of the pellets I purchased from you (NE Pellet). Compare to the season before burning NE Pellets, I found your pellets to have a lot more powder or broken pieces and more dust in my home after filling the hopper. I use a Harmon insert and last year cleaned it 3 times (full take apart) compared to one annual the year before, still the stove would not throw as much heat as in previous years. I was disappointed to learn from my local dealer that you indeed reported to him that you had a “bad batch” of pellets that you sent out with this known problem. Guess I was one of the unlucky ones who got stuck paying top price for a poor quality pellet. Pls contact me at your earliest convenience, I’d like to stick with NE but need to feel reassured you guys are keeping up with your customers before giving you another chance at my continued business. Thank you

(I’ll post if NE responds to my customer service inquiry, but at the same time am considering an alternative if they don’t offer help)- ?Barefoot anyone?

  23. Mark Kimball says:

I agree with Steven Kenyon…….I did another EXTREMELY THOROUGH cleaning of my stove on Saturday. Almost 3 hours!!!! I dismantled the back end and brushed and vacuumed every square inch. Sunday night – 9:30 p.m.
I put the 3rd bag in, and am AMAZED at the size of the CARBON BOOGER on my flame guide – after only 3 STINKING BAGS !!! My stove runs fine – I’m buying 5 / 6 bags of another brand. I’ll once again clean before using them.
Then back to the N.E. brand. If I get the recurring problem, i may call the Attorney General to file a complaint. This is supposed to be a Premium HARDwood pellet. It simply is not what it was when they came from Jaffrey,NH. The Schuyler plant is slipping us the biscuit. With this economy, paying a premium dollar should merit a premium product.

    • Mike Johnsto says:

Agree ditto with Steve and Mark…Bought NEWP 5 years ago and was quite satisfied . These last two years and 8 tons later I have learned a lesson. I am currently burning Turman hardwood out of VA and can’t believe how little ash after 3 bags of these compared to a full ash pan after 3 of NEWP. Just ordered 4.5 tons of Granules LG….hoping these babies are what they state they are…low ash and decent btus.

      • Mike J says:

Well…the LG are not what was expected. Extremely high ash (filled front of stove in 3 days with sandy ash) byproduct. Heat ok, pellets a little long and feed rate had to be adjusted higher to keep stove going. Another brand to cross off my list. Still pining for Turman but at 269.00/ton will wait till spring. Just bought 4 tons of Inferno and the reviews don’t look too good for these. Will know next week…but for 168.00/ton (military discount included) had to give them a try.

  24. Ken says:

I have used New England pellets for years and until now i have not had any issues. HOWEVER, the 3 tons i purchased in the fall are not as good as in the past. Lots more ash and a hard buildup material in the burn pot. Seems to be more dirt on the glass as well. I have a Whitfield stove. Think i will be looking at other pellets next year.

    • Dave B says:

I agree with Ken. I have used NEWP exclusively for 14 years in my Harman Stove. This years 2010 run was markedly different to the point that pellets from the big box stores for $170 ton become quite attractive. I’m done with NEWP for now.

  25. Ernie says:

I sell both pellets and stoves…..there is a world of difference in pellets…..you just get what you pay for…..if you shop for price alone expect to get poor quality…..and will wish you had shopped quality instead…….i sell Lignetics (1% ash) and Hamer super premium (1/2% ash). Both are good quality products…….

In 2008-2009 there was a shortage of pellets on the east coast…….we had pellets shipped in from other manufactures out of state and they were poor and lots of headaches, ash, and clinkers!!….both manufactures claimed they were hard wood, low ash, and burned hot, but they did not deliver!!……but our clients were happy to have heat as many rely 100% on pellets for heat…….but disappointed with their performance……some drove over 1 1/2 hours to get pellets for heat….

This season (2009-2010) they all are glad we can once again obtain our usual premium brands……….NOTE…if there is no PELLET INSTITUTE membership, seal and information box on the bag, you are buying a pig-in-a-poke…….you have no idea what is in the bag!!……..

Once the euphoria of the low price fades, the depression of poor quality sets in……..

    PS……i burn pellets too..

    • Jennifer says:

So, here’s my question. Do you believe that a good quality stove should be able to burn any type of good quality pellets? This is the 3rd season with our Harman Advance pellet stove. First season was good. Second season burned up a motor – we were told by Harman distributor that it was the pellets we were using (we used Lignetic). Lignetic distributer bought back the pellets but season was almost over. Now, third season – bought premium – Inferno (Pellet Institute seal on bag) premium pellets and having problems again. Stove runs for a while and then shuts down. Heat output is low. My husband cleans the stove every week to 10 days. I feel like the service tech who comes just likes to blame the problems on the pellets because it is easier than diagnosing the real problem. I have read poor reports on Inferno pellets but also poor reviews on New England Wood pellets which our service man seems to think are the only good ones out there. Of course, New england wood pellets and the store we bought our stove from (Heart Lilne) are connected. Any thoughts?

      • WoodPelletInfo says:

There was only one brand I ever burned that failed on me. They were Narragansett Pellest and they were too long and would clog the hopper at least once a bag.

I personally believe a stove like yours should be able to burn about any pellet. The performance may vary or you may have extra ash but they should burn. I’ve had friends with cheaper stoves give me bags of pellets they hated. However they burned ok for me.

I have a Harman Accentra Insert.

      • Mike J says:

Try a few bags of Turman….made from hard wood flooring manufacturer byproduct. No bark, dirt and anything else a front end loader picks up at these cheaper pellet factories. Probably around $6 a bag today. Good luck.

    • Mike Johnsto says:

I wish I could say I bought cheap and got what I deserved…NEWP are certainly not the cheapos….259 a ton plus delivery…they burn like 199 a ton.

  27. Jack says:

The NEWP out of the Schuyler plant as of around August have had some quality issues we have had some customer returns due to long pellets, short pellets and ash problems. NEWP has addressed the issue and we are currently getting only new product. When they make the pellets correctly they have good heat with lower ash. Maybe not the best pellet out there but when they cost $30 cheaper than the competition it comes down to what you the user is ok with. Currently we have them at $225 picked up and ranging from $238 to $248 for delivery depending on how many tons you want. 28. george says:

First off I have a bottom feed Harmon XXV, this is a great stove, we love it. Well I’ve always have burned Dry Creek pellets in it until this season. This pass spring , under the recommendation of my dealer I switched To New England pellets (lower price and the dealer had been burning them and he hadn’t seen any difference between them and DC pellets) and have nothing but problems with heat output, excessive ash, excessive clinker build-up and feed problems (to the point where the feed system jams and the stove shuts down because the pellet length). Bottom-line New England pellets SUCK! Don’t buy them, I’ve got two tons that are going back to my dealer to be changed out for DC. Once again don’t buy New England pellets.

    • Dan-o says:

      George,

I agree 100 percent. My sixth season of burning an Enviro Evolution. Clean it out twice a week during burning season and take it apart every year to thoroughly clean and vacuum. Used to burn mostly Dry Creek. Burned fantastic. Also tried others in times of shortage — Juniata, Barefoot, Pennington (crap but still burns), Bayou, Fireside Ultra, Stove Chow — and they all burned. This season, bought two tons of Dry Creek then picked up a third ton, but went with New England based on suggestion of dealer. I also bought 20 bags of Fireside Ultra from The Home Depot as a back up. As soon as I started burning the New England, the stove would shut down on the lowest heat setting. So, decided to turn it up to the second of five settings. Stove would still go out. Even this season’s Dry Creek would shut the stove down on the lowest settings at times. The dealer thought it may have been a motor going bad, so I tear the unit apart and have the motors tested, which were fine. I finally spoke with some Enviro tech help and he mentioned it was most likely the pellet quality. So, I start burning the Fireside Ultra and leave the setting on the lowest. Burned great. No long pellets. Ash not bad and heat pretty good. I contacted New England and they tested my pellets and said the heat output was fine. What they didn’t address were the two-plus inch length pellets that were most likely bridging my auger and restricting pellet feed. The stove also wouldn’t light half the time after it shut down and I had to clean it out at 5 a.m. So, I can only burn New England on a high setting and have to make sure the Dry Creek is at the bottom of the hopper after a cleaning so I know it will start up. There’s no policing the “premium” of pellets and New England is not a wise investment in my book. (And that’s being kind.)

    • Jimmy J says:

I’m happy to see this and other post. I have the same stove for 6 years now . last year we used NWP like I have in the past.I had the exact same issues with the pellets and this was the first year they same from NY plant. I emailed and spoke to the main office in NH. I also sent them samples to look at . Most of the pellets were in exccess of 2″ long .In NE it’s pretty cold when the automatic stove shuts down at 2am while your sleeping. I got to the point I would get up 3 times a night the whole frigen winter to make sure my family did not freeze. They did call me back and say they had some issues in NY and were working on it.Thats it no appoligies no concern that a dedicated custome was not happy. I used them for 5years and paid good money for them and they did not care. (after reading this post I’m glad to see it was not my imagination or my stove)

      • a says:

We’ve burned pellets for 11 years and have never had a problem with New England pellets. Ours come from the NH plant. We get great heat. Our stove has an underfeed system. We empty the ash pan about once every ton. The only year we had a problem was the year we couldn’t buy New England pellets.

  29. Mark Kimball says:

I’m there with George and Dan-O – I’m experiencing the exact same problems. Been through the stove extensively. Is New England importing their product from CHINA !!!??? Premium Quality ???? Ummmmmm………O.K.

  30. Guy Cuggino says:

I’ve had a Harman XXV for almost two years now. Burned LG, Barefoot, Pennington, and New England pellets. I’ve also tested a few from Home Depot and Lowe’s.

In my opinion the best have been Barefoot and LG. Both burn clean, LG ash is a bit more. New England had much more ash and klinkers, and overall not as much heat and dirty-burning (you actually see the glass getting soot-covered alot sooner after cleaning). The pellets are also much darker (does this mean more bark in product?).

I can’t recommend New England, which is too bad because they’re made somewhat locally. I hope they can start making a better product.

  31. Rita Sawyer says:

My name is Rita and I am the customer service representative for New England Wood Pellet. I would like to let everyone know that we do realize that we had some quality control issues at our Schuyler NY plant. We have addressed the issues and as of November 2009 we have been producing a much better quality pellet from the Schuyler plant. Anyone who has purchased the product after November has had nothing but great things to say about it. We are doing everything we can to rectify the situation with any consumer who feels they purchased an inferior product. We are dealing with them on a case by case basis. Anyone who is having problems with their New England Wood Pellets can feel free to contact me at any time. My direct line is (603) 532-0631 or you can email me at rsawyer@pelletheat.com.
    Thank you.

    • WoodPelletInfo says:

Thanks for the feedback Rita. I used to hear good things about your brand.

This is a tough industry because consumers buy in bulk for the season. If they have a bad experience they’re not as likely to try the same brands again.

I encourage users of these pellets to report their findings with the newer versions since the problem.

  32. Ryan says:

    Rita…
In the words of my favorite South Carolina senator…”You Lie!”
Your product is so aweful that there is no way that you can fix it in a few months. What are you going to do with the 18,000 tons of wood pellets that are currently sitting on the ground that your company can’t sell? Are they going out in the field for retail sales?

    • Rita Sawyer says:

      Ryan,

If I was lying, why would I post something on this forum? Why wouldn’t I just sit back and not say anything? We realize that we had a problem and we are willing to step up to the plate and take responsibility. When the problem lies within the mills & the operator of the mills, you can fix the problem in a short period of time and we have. As far as the product sitting on the ground, we are pulling all the product and inspecting it and burning it. If there is a problem with it, we are dumping it back into the sawdust piles and re-running it thru the mills. We are not sending any product out in the field for retail unless we are 100% certain that there are no problems with it. I do appreciate your response.

      Rita

  33. Joe says:

Has anyone tried the green supreme pellets from NEWP? I am thinking about trying those but after reading these posts i am kinda weary.

  34. Belly Ache says:

Looks like New England Wood Pellet is getting quite a bitch-slapping here. Better shape up folks or you’re gunna have no business.

  35. Dan-o says:

I want to add a quick note here. New England did switch out the remainder of my ton of bad pellets with pellets that were manufactured in January. I’ve just starting burning them and as of three bags through the hopper, it’s been a big improvement. I’ve actually been able to run my stove on the lowest setting, which was impossible with the old pellets. No two-inch pellets in the bags and less fines. My next post will be after my next cleaning and re-start (my stove would not light up with the old NEP in the burn pot liner). Hopefully, it fires up in a few minutes like it’s supposed to.

  36. Dan-o says:

Stove fired up just like it should after the cleaning. No doubt these pellets are improved (bags are dated 1/11/10). I’d like to point out that Rita at NEP was excellent to deal with in regard to my pellet situation. While it did take a bit to resolve my issue for various reasons, she was always timely and courteous in responding to any concern I had. Believe it or not, customer service is not completely dead.

  37. Mike Johnsto says:

Interested in any feed back on the Granules LG softwood pellets. Want ot compare next winters burn against what you serious pellet burners have to say about this product….thx

  38. Russ says:

DO NOT buy from NEW ENGLAND WOOD PELLET. I burned 3 tons of their product and my house was 65 degrees and I had to clean out my stove every other day. I burned a few other kinds and at the same setting I gained 5 full degrees sometimes 6 or 7 and had to clean my stove out every 5-7 days. The NEWP is the worst pellets I have burned in my stove…it sucks too because I am from NH and would like to support them, but NO WAY!

  39. Sue says:

I used to love New England pellets before their fire. For the past two seasons I have not been able to buy them and from the feedback that I’ve read, I’m glad. I’m a little hesitant to try them for next season. BUT if they are willing to stand by their product and if I can find them in Rhode Island then I will try one bag this spring and see how they burn.

  40. david says:

They sell neweangland at fire place showcase {the old showcase sekonk.} I picked up 2 ton on the recommendation of a friend there last season poor heat,soot,1.5/2 ” long pellets it jamed my top auger 2 times. also lots of ash they wont see my $ next year its back to bear foot or hamers hot ones next season. I have heard they have had problems in the passed but when you have been burned it’s hard to get trust back.

  41. Jeff says:

I have burned NEWP for many years and they were the best but last 2 yrs were not well and actually this year complained to them via email from a previous note on this board and they made arrangements to have a sample sent to them and then they arranged to have 4 ton exchanged after I sent them a sample and they anaylized them. I have not had chance to try them as yet but they did stand behind them. The contact name @ NEWP was Rita.
Do not know of any other outfit that will stand behind their product like that.

    • Jeff Bradway says:

Well the season has started and I have sampled out the pellets that were exchanged that I had issue with last season. I must say WOW what a differance in burning and heat. More like they used to be. Heat output gone back up. I really wish to thank Rita for her attention when I emailed her and also after her requesting a sample and empty bag she quickly contacted me and my dealer to arrange at no cost to me the exchange of 4T for new supply that was produced in NH vs NY. Thanks for the great customer service. I realize mistakes happen but the correction means it all and standing behind your product. I am burning them in a Breckwell P2000 stove.

  42. Jack says:

I would ask any one that has burned NEWP and hated them to try at least one bag again from any thing produced after Jan 2010. If your in my local area of 233 Whipple Rd Bernhards Bay, NY I am willing to give any one a free bag to try. I have been checking lot numbers as we get them and actually burning them and it is a good pellet again and people at the plant care and are working hard to keep a consistant and quality product. Call before coming out if you want to try a bag (315) 675-3530.

  43. Jack says:

Edit to above the business location is 175 Whipple Rd, Bernhards Bay, NY 13028. My home adress is 233 sorry for the mix up.

I purchased 5 tons of New England pellets manufactured at the Shuyler plant last fall of 2009 for the 09/10 heating season. I am glad I stumbled across this site (albeit a little late). I have had all sorts of problems this winter. I had two auger feed motors replaced (out of pocket) which I believe is the direct result of longer than normal pellet length. I am down to my last 1/4 ton or so. This last batch I think was left over from two seasons ago. The amount of sawdust in each bag is between 1/4 and 1/2 cup. Little cold snap and I am trying to fire off the last of it. My Harman Advance is in its fourth season of use. I clean the basic surfaces every week and do a major clean once a month. We had the unit stop several times over the winter and never start back up. Usually it has been automatic.

Glad to see that NEWP stepped up to the plate. I am disappointed that my dealer didn’t call and see how I was doing with the pellets (no sense calling them they never answer the telephone and the voicemail is often full anyway). I assume they knew that there was an issue with the pellets. It will give me pause to purchase from them again. I paid a premium for the NEWP (trying to keep it local and all) but I must admit I will be hesitant to pay that much again for such poor performing product. I did run a few bags of cheapo Home Depot pellets through and had no issues (that’s what got me thinking maybe it was the long pellets hanging up my auger). Of course I got here tonight by searching for “Harman Stove Sucks” and since my igniter seems to have gone I tend to agree.

  45. Alexis says:

I bought some of the new and improved New England Pellets at the direction of NEWP’s customer service department after complaining about their chitty pellets this past winter. I got the song and dance and the whole 9 yards from the woman up there who promised me that they were improved. I went to a local retailer who just got in a fresh batch of the good stuff. IT SUCKED. JUST AS BAD AS THE PREVIOUS PELLETS. Absolute Garbage.
Hey NEWP- Never Again. You keep your crap and I will Burn something else. Like Barefoot or Cubex. You are horrible pellet people. Horrible. Period.

    • Rita Sawyer says:

      Alexis,

I am the Customer Service Rep. at New England Wood Pellet. My apologies, but I do not recall ever having spoken to you. Would you mind telling me who your local dealer is where you purchased these pellets from? You are the first person to have any kind of quality issues with currently produced pellets, and I would like to contact the dealer and make sure that they do not have “suspect” product at their facility. Also, if you purchased pellets that you feel are inferior, please contact me so we can rectify the situation.

      Sincerely,

I own All Basics Stove Shop in Merrimack NH, and there are many good pellets out there. Softwood Pellets have a fluffier ash so it appears that there is more. We sell Energex, Turman, Maine (There are 4 different Maine Pellets) and Super Premium (Limited Avail) My advice is to try before you buy.

Dont count New england out yet they have a new facility opening in late 2010 in deposit ny on the ny, pa border its a huge facility. cant wait to see if everyone can put schylers mistakes in the past and give the new guys a chance to make the company what it use to be… the best pellets in the north east!!!

  49. mike says:

Nice!!! I just purchased 2 tons of NEWP today for my new pellet stove ( Summers Heat from Lowes)..Decided to search after the dealer at my local stove company said these were great pellets. Obviously now I wish I had found this forum yesterday!!! Oh well all I can do now is hope they really have fixed these issues. If they burn well I will continue to use them. Wish me luck!!

    • Jack says:

I have been burning them from every lot number we sell and the temp is up from last year and the ash is down. Pellet length is a good size and so far I have seen very little for fines in the bag. If they give you a problem contact your pellet dealer and tell them NEWP work with us last year to get the bad pellets back and to make people happy but if they dont know they cant help.

      • John says:

Jack I bought from you this past spring, and have burned the new batch and have had no problems with NEWP. So hopefully any issues have been resolved.

        • Jack says:

We can hope. I still keep a close eye on every lot we get in so we dont sell something bad like last year. Thank you for the feed back John.

          • mike says:

Thanks guys. I’m hoping they burn well too but if I have any problems I will contact the pellet dealer.

  50. Mike says:

This is my 3rd year with my Harmon P-68. The only pellet that I ever used were New England Premium. I burn alot since my home is kinda big and drafty (old farm house). I go through about 7 tons per season and thought that taking a hammer and flathead screwdriver to the burn pot every ten bags was normal. The carbon looks like it came fresh out of a kingford charcoal bag. My stove also hardly starts on its own ( I help it with a map torch) Now I find out that the pellets were no good.
I’m so tired of spending money and getting crap.
My question is,,how often should I have to chisel out the burn pot?

Burned Energex the first year I had my stove and switchwed to New England Wood Pellets last year. Lots of carbon build up and constantly had to clean my stove compared to first year with Energex. Stove also developed an anoying whistling noise that I was unable to solve until I changed back to Energex pellets. Will never burn NEWP again!!!

    • John says:

my quadrafire MT Vernon stove has no problem with NEWP old pellets,or the new upgraded pellets. Maybe it’s your stove that dosen;t like them.Just like the wood pellet ya get what ya pay for.

  52. Carlo says:

I also was a NE wood pellets burner until I tried Spruce Point. What a difference with the Spruce Point!

  53. Joe says:

    Mike,

I have a Harmon P-61A. I routinely clean the carbon weekly. I find a clean stove burns better. I don’t normally get a lot of carbon dooing it this way. I currently burn Okanagon pellets. I like then very much. Never tried the NEWP.

  54. Joe says:

Spruce Point are a good pellet too. I’m beginning to like softwood pellets over hardwood. I plan on trying a few bags of Energex next week, though. My choices so far are Cubex (hardwood) and Okanagon (softwood).

  55. Bruce says:

I Bought 7 tons of New England pellets last year, they cane from the NY plant in schuyler, they didnt put out heat, my stove on high wouldnt heat my house to 60 degrees. Called New Endland pellets in NH, sent samples to be tested and lt numbers, they paid the local dealer to come and pick up the 6 tons i had and paid the difference in price for me to switch to Curran Blended pellets which my dealer also carried.
New England had since fired everyone in the NY plant, and revamped everything there, but had such a bad expierence last year that this year I bought Curran. they produced more heat, less ash, and no clinkers, only difference is I didnt buy the blended this year i bought the super premium softwood. They are supposed to be even cleaner burning and produce more heat than the blended!

  56. mike says:

So i burned about 10 bags of NEWP after I ordered 2 tons. The heat is great so far but the burn plate seems to have about an inch of ash or so after about 12 hours of constant burning. I am new to pellet stoves as this is my first one (summer’s heat from lowes) so not sure if this is normal amount of ash buildup. After the first 24 hours of burning on the lowest setting i went through almost 2 full forty pound bags. Is this normal?? like I said the heat has been great ( 25 degrees outside in mass last night, 70 in my 2200 sq ft house upstairs). The window on the stove also gets covered in carbon and soot almost completely after about 24 hours straight burn. Not even sure if these are complaints as the pellets are def throwing off good heat. Also, what is the best way to scrape the carbon off the burn pot and auger screw?? thanks guys.

  57. laurel says:

I’m experiencing my first week using a pellet stove – harman insert – top of the line…used one bag of Juniata, and got so much carbon build up it started squeaking when the auger moved. Had the service guys come out and they said the pellets are dark – look like bark – though the bag says bark free. They said they use Lowe’s — when purchasing, the dealer directed me to this pellet company and on their recommendation I got 2T Juniata — The heat is not good as described, and I’m NOT scraping the carbon chunks after every bag! This investment has not been the dream I hoped it would! HELP! – advice??

    • Jack says:

Not sure where you live but look for brands like Cubex, Northern, Barerfoot, Hammer Hot Ones, Okanagan’s, Somerset, Turmans. Then you can try a bag and if they work good you can mix the bad Juniata’s in with the good pellets to get a better burn. Just an idea. To find pellet dealers try http://www.woodpelletprice.com

This is our third year using the Harman Accentra. The first year we used “Greene Team” pellets and the stove was a total joy.
Last year we used several brands from Lowe’s and Walmart and though the house was heated the stove cleaning was a constant and tedious chore and we used more pellets per day. If we had used the pellets we used last year during that first year that we had the stove we would have figured that pellet heat was too much aggravation.
We’re back to “Greene Team” pellets and very happy except we’ve not been able to buy a full year’s supply. We just picked up a couple bags of “Stove Chow” to try and a couple bags of “Clean Energy”. Any comments to share about these brands as compared to “Greene Team”?

  59. robert walrath says:

there still a lot of ash i was told you took care of that problem.so i got four ton of the new england pellets. also it dosen’t put out the heat that the dry creek did. I willgo back to the dry creek pellets if you can’t get the ash tha is put out.I would like your in put

  60. Carol Mc says:

Wondering if anyone can help us. We have an Avalon Pellet stove, new this year. Our first ton of pellets, from Agway, were fine. We then purchased New England and we have had nothing but problems. Within 8 -12 hours the burn box fills with upburned pellets and we have to shut it down and clean. We have tried all different setting and air flow, to no avail. The pellets were manufactured in Schuyler NY and are lot #9492270544. From the comments I have read I am wondering if these pellets were manufactured during the problems at the Schuyler plant. Any help would be appreciated.

    • Jack says:

See the post above from Rita and give her a call. They have worked very hard to make sure that the old product has been removed from the market but that does not mean its not out there. Where did you purchase the pellets from? If you look at the back of the bag in the upper left hand corner you will see a 4 digit number on the bag made out of small pin holes its hard to see but its there that is the year and day it was bagged.

    • pete says:

Thats funny that agway worked fine but newps didnt because new england makes agway pellet????

  61. Bob Grimmer says:

Interesting posts. Here in Southern Maine 10 friends have all bought Harmon stoves and compare notes. We’ve tried many different types pellets, hardwood, blends of hard and soft and 100% soft wood. Our overwhelming conclusion is 100 % softwood is the ONLY way to go. Less ash, higher heat, greatly reduced clinkers, and less smoke depoists on the glass. This year were all using Spruces Point softwood pellets, I’d like to buy American but the only manufacturer we found that made a quality softwood pellet was from Cornith Maine, but they dropped the softwood pellets for a 50/50 hardwood blend. LG’s out of Quebec are second best. Try to stay with the black spruce soft wood pellets. We’ve been burning pellets for the past 5 to 6 years. Changing over to pellet heat has cut my propane consumption from ~ 1400 gallons to < 400 gallons per year! Hope this helps.
PS we pool our pellet purchase in the spring time with one dealer and save
    big bucks.
    Bob

    • Mike J says:

The LG may be ok for the bottom feed type of stove…but the Whitfield design (which drops them) causes too much fly ash as these pellets break up on burn and this fly ash fills up my ash pan to 3 days. Turman still the best I have seen to date.

  62. Rich - Cooperstown, NY says:

Produced good heat and burned clean, but pellet sizes seemed to vary greatly and larger pieces did jam my feed auger several times. Bags had a lot of “dust” in them.

After reading these posts I am convinced the NEWP are the cause of our problems too. We have a Harman Accentra and the last two years we used Corinth-last years two tons were terrible so we got a ton of NEWP. Those were ok. This year we have been using the NEWP (one ton delivered, picking up bags each week) Have had to constantly clean stove, having creosote and lots of soot and plenty of carbon buildup. Yesterday the stove was feeding pellets but then the flame would die down because the feed would only work sometimes. It was set at 80 but couldn’t get house temp over 62. Last night (it was 4 below) it went out. This morning we did another cleaning, the third this week, and cleaned the flue-it was full of chunks of hot ash and pretty clogged up. We had cleaned it in October-last year only cleaned it once in March. Right now it’s 70 in the house but already glass is dirty and have clinkers. I will be trying different pellets this week.

  66. billymac says:

Do not buy Inferno pellets, they are the worst I have ever used, Lowes sells them now, they burn twice as fast with no better heat, I think they are loaded with wax or fillers, they are too long and too short and clog the auger, they soot the glass, and they fill the burn pot with clinkers daily, this company is not advertising what is printed on the bag, its bogus materials and fillers in the Inferno pellets, you can tell they are very slippery to handle, most likely the wax or fillers.

  67. Brenda says:

We used the tidytimbers pellets and they made our building turn black inside and out. They are from Pine Bluff, AR and we have called them many times to talk with someone. The receptionist finally got nasty with my husband. We bought three tons from Lowes at the beginning of the season. I took all kinds of pictures and I guess I will have to speak to my attorney regarding them. We went back to using the brand we have used for years and we get less ash and they have not turned anything black. The Tidy Timber pellets are as if they have something added to them that make the black greasy. We have tried for three weeks to just talk to them and ask some questions but you can’t get past the receptionist.

Please do not use their pellets you will regret it.

  68. mike says:

I was running low on NEWP so i put in an order in for a ton of Heartland pellets. They were a little more money but you get 1.2 tons. The NEWP were pretty good but I wanted to give something else a try as this is our first year with the stove. I was AMAZED at how good the Heartland pellets were. Maybe a quarter of the amount of ash the NEWP had, and WAY more heat. The NEWP kept our house comfortable but the heat the Heartland’s give off is incomparable. My upstairs is 1,800 square feet and on a 12 degree day it was 72 degrees in my house using Heartland. These pellets are awesome. The NEWP are good but I will use them in spring and fall and use the Heartland’s for the freezing New England winters.
