I have heard a lot of horror stories about Greenway Pellets. Last year, I bought some by accident at a quick sale. Man was I ever surprised. These things burn great. There was ash, yes, but minimal. The heat production was also notable. I'm looking for the best price I can get on them now for this year in the Baltimore area.
As for storage, definetly inside and dry somewhere. I threw 4 bags in the back of a pick up one year for added traction. I forgot about them. Come summer, I went to remove them and the bags had inflated and popped as soon as I toutched them. Nothing left but dust. Amazing.

I have a harman accentra insert and have been trying various types of pellets so here is what I found; I live in massachusetts

Stove settings #3-1/2 on the feed rate, medium for the room temp which moderates the fan speed. I also have a thermostat 22 feet away from the pellet stove that serves as a backoff thermostat (get one it works great) I ran the 2 wires from the thermostat down into the basement and up through the cleanout pit of the chimney upto the back of the insert as well as the power. I plug the power into a basement outlet with a surge protector. The harman dealer should know how to connect the thermostat to the motherboard, if not let me me know as I still have the schematic/instructions for this.

Greenway: I was pleasantly surprised since I knew nothing about these pellets but couldn't resist the price at Lowe's at $209/ton. SO I went for it and bought 5 tons. Nice and warm with very little ash. I clean the stove every 2 weeks after I burned 19 40lb bags, no popping noises. burnpot was for the most part clean just a little buildup to scrape in the bottom.

Curran: high heat but a lot of ash, had to clean the ash tray out after 4-5 days, used 8 bags, so I will use the 20 bags I bought when it is below zero out. burn pot was ok

New England pellets: nice heat somewhere between the greenway and the curran, 7 days and 10 bags before I had the clean the ash tray. burnpot was basically clean just a little scraping at the bottom.

Thats it for now. I still have a few bags of maine's choice to try will update later

I used Greenway also...terrible. Gummed up the burn pot in 10 hours. I was constantly shutting down the stove to clean it out. Just bought some Pennington's at Lowes and love them. Haven't needed to even clean the glass yet in 4 days.

I was curious as to how you liked the Greenway pellets? If you would not mind, you can email me privately at nikkiinmdsc@yahoo.com. We also live in Maryland and use a pellet insert. Thanks :)

bOB i HAD A SImilar gREAT EXPERIENCE WITH greenway. I think these people that are having problems with greenway need to look at their stoves. I have a Baby Magnum that is made in minnesota. No problems with stove . I started with northern michigan pellets that were reccomended by the stove guy. Might have had something to do with the fact that he sold only this brand. I did not think about changing pellet brand until I tried green way. I had 1/2 cup of ash after one bag that lasted for 30 hours in northern michigan with temps of 10 deg f.
