Greenway Pellets is based in Collinwood, TN. Their pellets are manufactured as a byproduct of their flooring mill.

If you have any comments regarding Greenway Pellets please mention the brand of your pellet stove and if it is a drop or bottom feed style.
I tried a bag of Greenway pellets in my bottom feed Harman Stove. I didn’t have the ash problem that a friend had.

Hi, First time users of pellets. We have a pellet insert on order for our fireplace and live in southern NH, and have a regular split level house about 1200 sq ft upstairs. We keep the house at about 67 in the winter. Does anyone have an idea of how much pellets we can expect to go thru? We just got 2 tons of greenway premium delivered by pelletsales. Luckily I have 2 strong boys, they put 100 bags away under the porch in about 40 min. It’s pretty protected under this porch from the elements and we put them on the pallets, hopefully this kind of storage will be fine. Will rodents try to get in the bags? Thanks!
Any moisture at all will render any pellet useless. I store mine in my garage. With a little planning you would be amazed at how many bags you can stack if your careful. You should be able to stack 100 bags in a 4 ft by 8 ft space and about 5 ft high. I had been using northern mich co pellets, but tried a bag of greenway and I was Amazed at how little ash that was produced and how long they lasted. One 40lb bag of greenway sp oak pellets lasted about 30 hours in northern michigan with temps in 12 to 14 Deg f. My house is 1326 ft sqared. Heat for 30 hours for 4 dollars cant beat that. I found greenways at meijer for 3.58 per bag. Take care
I have heard a lot of horror stories about Greenway Pellets. Last year, I bought some by accident at a quick sale. Man was I ever surprised. These things burn great. There was ash, yes, but minimal. The heat production was also notable. I’m looking for the best price I can get on them now for this year in the Baltimore area.
As for storage, definetly inside and dry somewhere. I threw 4 bags in the back of a pick up one year for added traction. I forgot about them. Come summer, I went to remove them and the bags had inflated and popped as soon as I toutched them. Nothing left but dust. Amazing.
I have just purchased a pellet stove and have a few questions. First, it is a free standing unit. I have been told that I can place hardibacker and tile underneath the stove to fireproof the floor. For installation, is this safe? I was wondering if I needed to place the thicker cement board under the tile instead.
Also, I have researched pellets available in Reno NV. I know to stay away from Penningtons but here are the brands I have been able to find in my area.
Lowes-Forest Fuel
Home Depot – Greenway pellets and Premium Blazer
Local Feed – Store Hot Shots
Local Nursery – Lignetics
Has anyone had any experience with any of these pellets?
Greenways are the best Ihave tried. Myk Northen Michigan
Shelley, stay away from Greenway pellets, they are the worst, Blazer ok,
Golden Fire are the best pellets by far. Lingernettics good
What was wrong with Green Way. I burn them and they work great!
Ordered 4 tons of greenway pellets two weeks ago and just read a comment to stay away from greenway pellets. Anyone have any feed back please!
Hi .. Does anyway have any experience burning Greenway premium hardwood Pellets ?
I had 3 tons, found them dusty and require me to clean the stove nearly every day. They burned ok, not great … now I am down to the last ton … they are horrible … burn a lazy orange flame and make black soot buildup on the glass door within as soon as an hour of start up of the unit. I am disgusted with them. Trying to work out with the place I bought them from but would be interested in knowing if anyone has used the Greenway .. they are by Hassell & Hughes out of TN. Thanks anyone …
CHECK YOUR STOVE I BASHED A PELLET PRODUCER FOR LAZY FIRE GLASS BLACK AND IT WAS MY ERROR OF NOT NOING HOW TO CLEAN MY STOVE EFFECTIVELY. JUST A POINTER
Look at your fresh air intake, MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE
I used Greenway also…terrible. Gummed up the burn pot in 10 hours. I was constantly shutting down the stove to clean it out. Just bought some Pennington’s at Lowes and love them. Haven’t needed to even clean the glass yet in 4 days.
I had 3 tons of greenway pellets .they were junk .I had the same problem with the dust in every bag.I had my stove install in december this was all new to me .but now I purchased lignetics wood pellets they are far much better pellet than greenway.I purchased greenway on line at pelletsales.com. I wont do that again.
I have a friend that used Greenway wood pellets. The glass would get very dusty within burning one bag to the point you could barely see through the glass.
I tried Greenway in my stove and it wasn’t as bad. They seemed to burn ok and my glass did not get as dirty. I have a bottom feed stove. My friends is a top feed stove so maybe that’s the difference?
we bought some greenway pellets about a year ago, when we opened the bag all we found was saw dust, there was about 3 inches of dust in the bottom of the bag, and the pellets that was in the bag did not burn good at all they are junk i would not recommend anyone to purchase these.
GREENWAYS DOSENT TAKE ENOUGH PRIDE IN MAKEING A PRODUCT. WE BOUGHT A TON OF THERE PELLETS AND DID NOT BURN GOOD AT ALL. MADE A LOT OF ASH, HAD TO CLEAN OUR STOVE OUT ABOUT EVERY DAY.
I have burned 3 tons of greenway pellets through My Breckwell P23 And All I can Say Is That Yes They Are Dusty And Do Produce Ash Just Like Other well Known Pellets, But Heat Output Is Excellent, If You Just Stay On Top With Maintenance You Should Have No Issues. I am Now Burning Barefoot Pellets Because At The Time I couldnt find Greenway Pellets from pelletsdirect.com so i went with my local Vendor. Would I buy Greenway Again, Absolutely!
Barefoot Is A better pellet But It Also Commands A higher Price.
My Pellet Rankings Are As Follows:
#1 Barefoot
#2 Greenway
#3 New England Wood pellets
I burned Green Way Pellets all last year, and they were excellent. I dumped my ash pan 3 times last year in my unit. The heat was excellent, and I am VERY pleased with this product. I definitely will be using it again.
bOB i HAD A SImilar gREAT EXPERIENCE WITH greenway. I think these people that are having problems with greenway need to look at their stoves. I have a Baby Magnum that is made in minnesota. No problems with stove . I started with northern michigan pellets that were reccomended by the stove guy. Might have had something to do with the fact that he sold only this brand. I did not think about changing pellet brand until I tried green way. I had 1/2 cup of ash after one bag that lasted for 30 hours in northern michigan with temps of 10 deg f.
I sell both pellets and stoves…..there is a world of difference in pellets…..you just get what you pay for…..if you shop for price alone expect to get poor quality…..and will wish you had shopped quality instead…….i sell Lignetics (1% ash) and Hamer super premium (1/2% ash). Both are good quality products…….
In 2008-2009 there was a shortage of pellets on the east coast…….we had pellets shipped in from other manufactures out of state and they were poor and lots of headaches, ash, and clinkers!!….both manufactures claimed they were hard wood, low ash, and burned hot, but they did not deliver!!……but our clients were happy to have heat as many rely 100% on pellets for heat…….but disappointed with their performance……some drove over 1 1/2 hours to get pellets for heat….
This season (2009-2010) they all are glad we can once again obtain our usual premium brands……….NOTE…if there is no PELLET INSTITUTE membership, seal and information box on the bag, you are buying a pig-in-a-poke…….you have no idea what is in the bag!!……..
Once the euphoria of the low price fades, the depression of poor quality sets in……..

PS……i burn pellets too..
I burned Greenway pellets last year and was quite satisified with them. They burned at about 8000+ BTU but the ash content was about 5%. I always go back to my softwood Bear Mountain pellets. They burn at about 8600 BTU and have a very low ash of about 1% or less. I have tried hardwood and hard/soft wood combinations but I always go back to a good softwood pellet. My stove is a top feed. The very best pellet I used was the Pinnacle Pine pellet made in western Canada but no one here in Wisconsin is able to get them anymore.
i’ve had my stove since fall of 2006 and have tried several brands of pellets. The stove is a quadrafire santa fe and i am quite happy with its’ simplicity.
ANYWAY, i’ve used new england “brownies” and “greenies”, maine choice, turman, atomic, and several others. Our main reason for using pellets was to save on heat.the new england brown bag and maines choice are a good pellet with few if any clinkers. the turman hardwood burned hot, but left clinkers and the atomic were hot, but super dusty and poor size control.they left a a clinker like a hockey puck in the burn pot. i plan to try a few more before i decide on what to buy for the 2010 season.
Last fall I purchased 6 tons of golden fire wood pellets and they had a very obnoxious chemical smell. I am wondering what they put in the pellets to cause this smell. The smell made us ill. This was a costly learning experience not only to our pocket book but our health as well. We used golden fire in the past and never had the problem until last fall and we checked them out today and they still have that terrible chemical smell. Whenever anybody entered our house they would ask what is that terrible smell. Just a bag of these pellets sitting in our house emits such a terrible chemical smell. Golden Fire owes it to the public to disclose the source of this odor so we know exactly what we are being exposed to and just how harmful it is to our health
I FULLY agree with K R. We bought a ton of Golden Fire wood pellets off a friend who was moving and they stink to high heaven!! Not only that, I feel that they have made me very sick this winter also! To me, they almost smell as if an animal had urinated on them, but they’re in sealed bags so that is not possible! I walked into the house after work and going to the gym tonight and I am thoroughly disgusted with the smell from them!! We had some friends over for dinner and we put the storage bin outside and I burned as many candles as possible to try to get rid of the horrid smell! The deal we got on price was NOT WORTH IT!! I’d almost give away the remaining bags that we have and NEVER buy them again!!
I have had a ashly 5700 pellet stove for six years now and have burnt many different pellets. The best pellets I have burnt have been W.Va kignetics and the worst I have burnt came from franklin N.C. man. I am curently buying Greenway pellets and have just started will update in a couple of months. Rod
Hi all, just a quick note that i am trying out a ton of Greenway pellets in my Breckwell 2700 stove and I’ll let ya know how it goes…1 ton of pellets is $189.00 in the Glen Burnie MD area. I am used to using Turman pellets at approx $250.00 ton… I have already found that there is more sawdust in each bag than the Turman pellets…
I was curious as to how you liked the Greenway pellets? If you would not mind, you can email me privately at nikkiinmdsc@yahoo.com. We also live in Maryland and use a pellet insert. Thanks
We decided to try a few bags of Greenway pellets again this winter after having concerns last season and I can now say with confidence that we will NOT buy Greenway pellets every again. We would prefer freezing to burning this brand. These pellets put off a terrible smell – IN and Outside the house. It smell like burning varnish and turpentine. The window of the stove becomes completely blacked out with soot within a few hours of use. The ash builds up so much that we have to clean out the stove everyday with a shop vac – which means having to wait for it to cool completely before using it again. The auger squeeks and grinds only with this brand. We are very limited as to the brand selection available to us in our area. In addition, the few other brands we have tried are no longer available so Pennington is the only other type of pellet we have been able to use consistantly. We do not have problems with Pennington. We will – and do – pay more and drive further to get Pennington Pellets.
I use Hassel and Hughs greenway pellets, yes there is dust but seems to burn well. I bought 15 bags of Pennington for3.74 a bag at Home Depot. Less dust, pellets seem darker and more dense, definitely less dust. I checked out Pennington on the net and there is nothing but complaints. What pellets are the best?
Just got a top feed pellet heater. Not many found in Alabama. With the cost of Propane I wanted to check out a new source. Glad to say my choice of a Pellet heater and Greenway pellets is a hit. Cost on pellet fuel a lot cheaper than a truck load of hardwood for my old Buck Stove, and way cheaper than propane.
outstanding clean no smoke fuel. best fuel for my harman heater.
Green Way Pellets are low cost pellets ! Bought 3 tons for 642.00 Dollars . I have to clean the stove every day, To much ash and pucks in the burn pot . I will buy top shelf pellets next season !
C Fox..I bought Greenway from the same source. I am finding that they don’t seem to completely burn like the other brands I have tried and consequently there is more ash (puck ash). I’ve got my stove on the slowest setting as well but this does’nt seem to help. I’m also wondering if they store their pallets outside and the pellets have absorbed some moisture or if this is just naturally how they burn.
people have to understand when you burn pellets you basicly are burning wood so you will get ash. yes some are more ashy but alot does depend on your stove settings and if you have you cold air hooked up. i have tried alot of brands just found these greenway and like the heat another good brand is barefoot
i have a breckwell pellet stove 4 years old free standing. greenway pellets seem to be pretty good. good heat and seem to burn clean.i burned 6 bags would buy again,i tried quite a few different types.tryed softwood and hardwood softwood blend, burn good and hot but to much ash cloud up the glass window.hardwood pellets much better do not cloud up the window as much as the softwood and blends.
I have a harman accentra insert and have been trying various types of pellets so here is what I found;
Stove settings #3-1/2 on the feed rate, medium for the room temp which moderates the fan speed. I also have a thermostat 22 feet away from the pellet stove that serves as a backoff thermostat (get one it works great) I ran the 2 wires from the thermostat down into the basement and up through the cleanout pit of the chimney upto the back of the insert as well as the power. I plug the power into a basement outlet with a surge protector. The harman dealer should know how to connect the thermostat to the motherboard, if not let me me know as I still have the schematic/instructions for this.
Greenway: I was pleasantly surprised since I knew nothing about these pellets but couldn’t resist the price at Lowe’s at $209/ton. SO I went for it and bought 5 tons. Nice and warm with very little ash. I clean the stove every 2 weeks after I burned 19 40lb bags, no popping noises. burnpot was for the most part clean just a little buildup to scrape in the bottom.
Curran: high heat but a lot of ash, had to clean the ash tray out after 4-5 days, used 8 bags, so I will use the 20 bags I bought when it is below zero out. burn pot was ok
New England pellets: nice heat somewhere between the greenway and the curran, 7 days and 10 bags before I had the clean the ash tray. burnpot was basically clean just a little scraping at the bottom.
Thats it for now. I still have a few bags of maine’s choice to try will update later
