Cubex Wood Pellets

Cubex wood pellets are from Canada. The parent company of Cubex is Lauzon. Lauzon manufactures wood flooring. The company states on their web site that they are a “fully integrated operation from forest to finished products”. They recycle wood residue and sawdust into their cubex wood pellets.

I have the most success with cubex! I get a higher BTU and very little ash build up. I could burn a month without cleaning out the ash pan. I had my stove cleaned along with my chimney this spring by a professional. He could believe that I put 4 tons of pellets through the stove. I would highly recomend “CUBEX”. I have 3 tons of cubex in my shed for the up coming winter. If I could hold more, I would buy more. The price per ton was $259.00 for May 2008. Not sure if they went up. Cubex price is more per ton than most brands, but you will not have any problems!

  3. Maureen says:

We used cubex pellets last winter and were very pleased with the burn of the pellets. We are ordering 3 more tons now. Price we are told goes around $350.00 ton.

Hello. I live near Trenton, Ontario. The Tri County store located in Trenton is still waiting for their order of wood pellets from your company. I was there on Thursday August 28th fully expecting to place an order for 4 tons, they expected the pellets the week of august 25/08. They are hoping delivery will be next week. Can you advise me of a delivery date for this supplier in Trenton, Ontario as soon as possible. Thanks.

  5. Jon of New Hampshire says:

I burned Cubex, New England Pellet and the Home Depot Fireside Ultra last winter. Cubex was the best of the 3 with New Eng Pellet a pretty close 2nd. Outstanding heat and I agree with one of the people above that I only had to clean my ash pan out about once per week.I bought 2 tons in June for $239/ton. If Cubex is costs more in your area, in my opinion, they are worth the extra money as you will be quite satisfied.

    Question for Jeremy

Im looking to buy wood pellets too.
There not easy to get right now, my local store is waiting for his order.
Browsing on the internet I got on the site ottawa wood pellet sales ,but they are close today (sunday).
Do you know how mutch they sale a bag or pallet of 75.
let me know ,or i’ll call back..
    thanks

  9. chris says:

I have used the cubex pellets, and I’m quite satisfied. But as a warning to all stay away from the Lakewood Industries brand pellets. They are junk. You will have nothing but problems and burning matches will heat your home better. Just a warning for those looking around.

  10. Jeremy says:

I am still waiting for my pellets from Ottawa Wood Pellets. I think there may be some supply issues since I get inconsistent stories. I tried a bag of the Lakewood pellets from the local home hardware and they are total garbage as Chris mentioned. Has anyone had any luck finding a source in the Ottawa area with stock at the moment?

    Thanks

  11. Jeremy says:

I recieved my pellets today in good order. I went with 1 1/2 Cubex and 1 1/2 LG.

  12. Steve says:

I tried contacting Ottawa wood Pellets, and actually got a phone call from someone…after 3 days. They quoted a per bag price to my wife and said a minimum of 10 bags was needed to make a purchase. We tried calling back to get a per ton price and place an order but it’s been over a week now and no response. Either they are very busy, or poor retailers…

I was passing through Smith’s Falls ON and saw that Canadian Tire had pellets for $4.99 a bag, so I later stopped by at the CTC in Renfrew ON and got a rain check for 40 bags. They called today to say they were in, and I picked them up tonight.

Lignetics, first time using that brand. Cubex last year from M&R Feed in Renfrew; they were great.

  13. James says:

I have also used cubex and found they were really good, the burn was slow to med and the heat was good

I live in the Kitchener Ontario area and we can’t find pellets anywhere? Does any know were we can purchase pellets?

I used Rona but they don’t have any and have no idea when they are getting them

    thanks

  14. John says:

Hello, I`m using Cubex too because I have 2 Withfeild stove, on downstairs and one upstairs and they work perfect. I`ve used LG, and some brand that Bytown had and they jamed my stove downstairs and my upstairs one would shut down because of too fast burn and lots of ash too. Energex is a good 100 % hard wood pellet. You need to have that 100 % on the bag for it to be a good pellet, otherwise it can be all soft wood and bark. So remember when bying anykind of pellet, if it says 100 % wood well it`s not hardwood. You need to read the bag and it defenitly have to on it 100 % Hardwood. You`ll never have any problems with that. I`ve been heating for 9 years and wiil continue to do too. You have to order your pellet at least 4 months in advanced because of a larger demand. Before I`d buy pellets for $2.97 a bag, that was cheap. You also need to get a generator in case of power outage and I`ve installed a back up battery pack on my stove so that when the power goes out the stove keeps on going. You also have to watch the Kind Of Stove you buy, I`ve seen alot of cheap ones and lots of them gives pellets stove a bad name. Withfield were invented first by Mr. Withfield himseld and I can`t complain about em. Anyways, enough said, I could go on and on for those stove. Hope this helps. If any questions feel free to ask.

    Hi
Has anyone found anywhere at all to buy pellets this year? I have called around and no one can tell me when or if they may have stock. They say at least 30 days, at a guess. We live in Cobourg area. Rumor is that Home hardware supplier burnt down, and everyone else is sold out. Home sells Lakewood anyway. Where do you buy the Cubex or Energex?
    Thanks

  16. barbara says:

I ordered wood pellets in july and was told they will be delivered in september, I still have not received them. I called today and was told they should be in next week. I sure hope so, because I was at 3 places today and they are all sold out. I can’t even buy one bag.

Hello, just thought that I would let people know that I have tried all over Kingston, Belleville, Trenton, Picton and north as far as Cloyne and NO ONE has any pellets!! I find it very hard to believe that because of one factory demise that we all have to suffer. And when I do call these places NO ONE can give me a straight answer as to when to expect delivery of their pelllets. Some places have told me that they will not get any until January.Alot of places are on a first come first serve basis…so you can’t even leave your name to hopefully secure some warmth!!! I am wondering also what this supply vs demand will do to the prices aswell…..
Good Luck to the fellow pellet scouts…
Also Napanee O’neills does not have any pellets…I called there just this afternoon.

  19. John says:

Hello all pellets people, I ordered some from Ottawa Wood Pellets, What Walter told me was that he had some Energex and I should get some next week, I ordered Cubex but it`s all on back order and said he was expecting them in december… amazing cause when I started heating with this, no one wanted to sell them because there was a very slow demand, now everybody wants to sell them but no one can get them. I know for a fact that alot of stoves were sold and even some stores were sold out of stoves and back ordered. I guess people went back one of the good way to heat your home…

  22. Denis says:

I ordered my pellets from Ottawa Wood Pellets at the end of Sept. and still waiting. I called three times and tallked to no one, just got phone messages. In mid-October Walter called me saying he could deliver 1.5 ton of Cubex and 1.5 of something else. I wanted all Cubex so I said I would wait. I am still waiting and now I have 5 bags left from a small order (30 bags) that I picked-up by me in late September 2008. The short story is that Lauzon in Papinauville, the compagny that produces Cubex had a fire in their main building where the pellets are created with hard wood from their floor company. Now they are rebuilding with money received from the Quebec government but I found out that the construction started later than expected and this is the reason they are not producing allot of pellets. Cubex are the best, nothing else is equal. I have a Harman 25th anniversary stove since 2005.

  23. Doug says:

John (nov.8) likes Cubex and Energex and I agree. At present burning Energex Premium but you cannot find 100% hardwood on bag. What kind of Energex do you burn. I have also had good success with Dry Creek.

  24. Paul says:

I ordered 3 skids of pellets from Rona in September, paid about $220/tonne but noticed their price now indicates $250/ton so it’s gone up a bit. Still waiting and they have no idea when they will arrive but indicated the fire has affected supply so I was just checking to see what fire they were talking about. Have never seen cubex down this way (Bruce County) but will keep my eyes open, sounds like the ones to get.

  25. Jocelyn says:

  26. John says:

Hi all, yep, nothing available anymore, no where to be found, out of stock and nobody can tell you when they will have some. The fire in the manufacture surely didn`t help, but I think there`s a big demand compared to previous years. Just to let you all know, I manage to get some Horse bedding that I got at a TSC store. It`s softwood pellet but it burns faster than the regular pellets. At least it can do for the time waiting for the order I`ve put in. The problem is that they are running out of HORSE BEDDING too. They use these pellets for stables as when it gets wet it puffs and it make it easier to clean. I paid $7.00 per 35lbs bags. Expensive but hey, that`s what it is right now. Amazing, unbeleavable, too much. This is the worst year I`ve seen for waiting on wood pellets but I still think that it`s one of the best way to heat up your home or business as it`s clean burning as it`s also recycled material. Hope this helps.I`ve contacted a few manufactures and let them know that I`d be willing to buy some at an Industrial bulk as I have a friend with an 18 wheel truck, I`m still waiting for a response and will let you`s know on here if I get them. Good luck all. Jocelyn, j`ai contacter plusieurs compagnies et je serais pret a en acheter en quantité industriel, j`attend toujours et si j`en ai des nouvelles je vais vous le laissez savoir cé sure. Bonne journée et Bonne Chance.

  27. John says:

Hi all, As far as a shortage of pellets, there`s alot of reasons, One plant burned yes but also apperently other had to wait on a government grand to expand, but also this summer there were too many in storage and no demands in the summer therefore they singed contracts with the states… yess The US. It`s starting to pick up a little bit. Chris, as for the Cornwall area there is a place called Atkins, they sale by 10 bags per customer and you get on a list. Try that and let me know please. Ottawa Wood Pellets had some from BC.. yes they are a little bit higher in price but he managed to get some… give it a call and get also on a list as they work the same way, 10 bagas per customer and they call you back when they get more. Pick up only… good luck all

    Hi!
We have been using Cubex for five years. We try different kind but nothing will beat Cubex for the heat. We do not understand why the store where we bought the stove cannot deliver wood pellets for the customer. This year we are stuck with a stove without any pellets which I don’t think that make sens.
They promise us with some for next week has been like that since september.
If you had that many in storage in summer you should let the consumer know about it and people would get their supply here in Canada instead to be shipped in Us.My question is is it any way we can get some for winter . We will like to have a straith aswer. Thank you

  29. John says:

Gisele, where are you located ? and for your question about why it is shipped in the US is because nobody buys pellets in the summer, therefor they have to sell, they just can`t keep the loads in the yards forever. If you know about pellets, then you know that it has to be stored in a dry place and it takes quite a bit of room. For buying pellets, I be that a lot of people including myself will be buying my pellets early next year and years to come. Where did you get your stove from ?

    John

  30. Gisele caron says:

    Hi John
I was please that you answer my request that fast.
We bought the stove at Multi Piscines in Sherbrooke but we are living in Coaticook.
Do you have any ideal if some pellets will be shipped to that consumer in the future or is it some other consumer nearest you make business with.
Let me tell you if we knew about the supply you had we would buy them in summer.
What can we do to get some? and where?
Everybody is pussing for energy but what good is it to have a stove without wood pellets.
    Thank you.

I live in muskoka ontario and having same problem no pellets
I call everyday and they all say the same thing
yesterday Washago got some unknown type in and we grabbed 10 bags, thats the limit per customer. Don’t really know anything about them
but its has phone #on the bag. Its so frustrating. Never had this problem before . I live in mobile home and don’t want to use my propane furnance.
    Anyway help anywhere!

  32. Marcel Clément says:

I have heard from a reliable source that all the wood pellets produced in Papineauville (Cubex) are being shipped to the U.S. leaving very little for the local market. This creates a rarety which will translate to probably higher prices when it will be available to us …….. I have heard many dates middle of december, near Christmas, middle or end of January 2009 or even April 2009…
and this after calling many stores in the Ottawa and Gatineau region. For those who recently bought a wood pellet stove, it’s a nice decoration for now because you may not be able to use the couple of thousand dollar stove until next heating season and then …

I am also waiting for calls for CUBEX wood pellets availability, not holding my breath on this..

  33. Carolyn says:

We are burning Cubex pellets in our pelleet stove and find that we must clean out the burn pot twice a day to get rid of the ash that builds up and interferes with the fire. We are very disappointed with the quality of the pellets and can’t wait for the ton to be gone so we can get another brand.

  34. Carolyn says:

We are burning Cubex pellets in our Harman pellet stove and find them to be the worst we have burned yet. Cubex went up to $325.00 per ton! What is everyone else paying! I really like Cubex, but this is getting very expensive!

  38. ross ayotte says:

I just ordered 6 tons of cubex pellets as I did last year had no problem last year or this year . But last July 6 ton cost me $260 a ton for a total of 1.560.00 dollars plus 78 dollars GST for a total of 1.638.00 dollars.
This April I paid 295 per ton for a total of $1.770.00 plus $88.50 for
GST for a total of $1.858.50 a difference of $220.50 from the
previcous year and the prices may go higher. Then comes next year when
the Ontario govt will add on a extra 8% sales tax called the HST on our bill
so I encourage the people of Ontario to contact the Premier to voice your
concerns on this tax to keep our cost of heating down. The way I look at it
I paid $88.50 for GST tax this year add the HST tax of 8% and now your paying $200 in taxes. I would also like to note I could go 5 days before
cleaning the stove but usaully done it twice a week. I estimated I saved
$600.00 in hydro and a further $800.00 on furnace oil as I ran two pellet
stoves all winter one in the basement and one in the dinning room which
heated the main floor and upper floor with no problems and set on two.

I live near Alexandria Ontario (between Montreal and Ottawa) does anyone have a good reliable source for pellets – I don’t want to get stuck in the same mess as last year with the shortage. Does anyone have any details on the fire in Quebec from last year?? When I check on line I can’t find a single specific article about it. One person advised they thought it was Lauzon – Truth is Lauzon has been enticed by the lucrative U.S. East Coast market – CUBEX is being exported and sells for about $325.00 USD per ton – Now we had the big annoncements for Ingleside and Iroquois, and neither of them will help the shortage problem – Iroquois is going to be making pucks instead of pellets, and Ingleside is selling to Hydro …. we need some solid Ontario based pellet manufacturers who are going to service the local population -

    Hi There,
I live in central Maine and this is my 3 winter coming up burning wood pellets, we love the whole idea and concept. I will make this short, I have an englander double auger feed pellet stove. We have tried the 3 different brands that The Home Depot has had, the best one being Pennington. The 4 that Lowes has had, 2 that Wlamart has carried and 2 from Maine that manufacture soft wood pellets. We do not like softwood pellets at all. Lots of ash and irregular sizes and moisture content.
THE BEST PELLETS THAT WE HAVE BURNED, HI HEAT,LOW ASH AND DUST WAS CUBEX FROM CANADA. YOU CAN BUY THEM AT ROCKYS STOVE SHOP RTE #3 AUGUSTA, MAINE.
    Thanks

    • Steve B. says:

      Fred,

I just called Rocky’s Stove Shoppe and they only have Okanagan (softwood) pellets for $285 a ton. I have been calling around to find pellets. The brands I have found so far around Augusta maine are:

      Bayou
      Energex
      Athen – New maine company
      Strong – New maine company

I had a terrible time last year with Pennington Pellets from Home Depot. Pennington ended up giving us a refund and replacing 3 tons of pellets and we still had dust and fines issues. Plus the pellets are hard to start.

On the other brands I have mention does anyone have an opinion?

      Thanks

  51. Louise says:

We bought an enviro empress stove last year right after installing our new Lauzon wood floor. Naturally, we were thrilled to find out that our floor co also made pellets! However, our local dealer who normally carries the Cubex was not able to get them all winter, and I never did get my hands on a bag last year.

I live in the US but am Canadian, cross the border on a monthly basis, looked for Cubex in Canada to bring back down, but no luck anywhere.

So, we burnt Lignetics, Dry Creek, Instant Heat, Pennington(sp?), New England, and LG. Of all of the above, Lignetics was by far the favourite. However, they have changed the content a bit and no longer are 100% hardwood, but still our favourites UNTIL we just tried the Cubex last week.

Our local dealer (Bennington Pools and Spa’s of Bennington, VT) now has quite a few tons for sale at $330.00/ton. We only got 2 bags to give them a try, and I’ll say they are well worth the extra money. High BTU, no ash, no dust going into the stove; Just a nice clean burn.

For the poster above looking for Cubex in MA, try this link:
    http://www.amherstfarmerssupply.com/heating-pellet-stoves-amherst-ma.nxg

I believe that most Enviro and/or Harman stove dealers carry the Cubex brand. If you can’t find the Cubex advertised in your area, try these 2 brands stove dealers.

PS: We also LOVE our Lauzon floor. This is one of those times where I’m proud to say I AM Canadian! :)

I sell both pellets and stoves…..there is a world of difference in pellets…..you just get what you pay for…..if you shop for price alone expect to get poor quality…..and will wish you had shopped quality instead…….i sell Lignetics (1% ash) and Hamer super premium (1/2% ash). Both are good quality products…….

In 2008-2009 there was a shortage of pellets on the east coast…….we had pellets shipped in from other manufactures out of state and they were poor and lots of headaches, ash, and clinkers!!….both manufactures claimed they were hard wood, low ash, and burned hot, but they did not deliver!!……but our clients were happy to have heat as many rely 100% on pellets for heat…….but disappointed with their performance……some drove over 1 1/2 hours to get pellets for heat….

This season (2009-2010) they all are glad we can once again obtain our usual premium brands……….NOTE…if there is no PELLET INSTITUTE membership, seal and information box on the bag, you are buying a pig-in-a-poke…….you have no idea what is in the bag!!……..

Once the euphoria of the low price fades, the depression of poor quality sets in……..

I also noticed more ash content when burned! Same output with heat! Has anyone noticed or experienced this with CUBEX? Any input would be a great help!

I can also get to you a new pellet just for boilers not stoves, higher ash but good burning, the price is very good. I am in Ontario and a Plant in Quebec. I am looking for clients.

Everyone should also know that Cubex sells their pellets under another name called “Northern Hardwood Pellets”. They have a bear on the bag. I have an Enviro Empress and have to clean the burn pot every day because the ash seems very heavy. No clinkers and good heat however.
