I own a Harman P-61 wood pellet stove for 10 years. I would buy another one if I needed to. As far as quality wood pellets that I’ve used and found to be the best in my opinion is #1 Barefoot, #2 Lignetics, #3 Energex/Juniata wood pellets.

    • b maze says:

you must have gotten energex / junita pellets before they started ripping people, i purchased them last season first and last time they were garbage won’t burn ‘ clinkers ,alot of dirt as well no heat value

  2. Jamie says:

    Hi -
SO happy to have found this website…’REAL consumer advise is better than any web and/or store. We too are from MA and in a pinch for pellets. We had done an early order with pelletsdirect.com for 3 tons Lignetics – however, received a letter telling us that they can no longer guarantee delivery and have no idea if/when they will be getting them. Their other brands are on back order till Nov & at this rate/avail doubtful those will come. So we’ve ordered 3 tons Eureka ($375/ton HOLY YIKES) from a local store. NEVER used before and didn’t find too many comments. Last year we burned barefoot and they were awesome. I am a little afraid since we have a 1yr old and a new baby on the way. NEED this stove to really kick this winter. Any comments on Eureka would be appreciated.

    Barefoot Pellet Company, Troy, PA

I have no knowledge of their products, just that I googled and found them.

  4. Sid says:

Has anyone burned Barefoot wood pellets or Palmetto wood pellets? I just went thru 3 tons of Lingnettics wood pellets found them to throw good heat. I thought maybe I would try another brand to see how Lingnets compares to the other brands.

    • Scott L says:

Last year was my first year with a pellet stove. I burned two tons of Bare Foot. They were excellent. I then tried Lignetics. The Barefoot burned more cleanly. I’d choose the Barefoot over the Lignetics.

    • TV says:

I BURN LINGNETTICS THIS YEAR 3 TON THEY BURNED FINE GOOD HEAT I AM ACTUALLY GOING TO BUY A TON OF AREFOOT TO SEE MYSELF.$259 A TON FAIF PRICE SEEING THAT I PAID ALMOST @269 FOR THE LIGS

    • Joe says:

I burned barefoot pellets this season and I had to keep my stove on low because they burned so hot.My house was warm all winter I love these pellets

    • steve says:

i burn barefoot pellets, this will be my third season, i have a quadrafire stove, the pellets are the best in the business.. i have also burned hamer’s hot ones, they burn a little hotter, but a little more ash as well, good luck

  5. Frank M says:

Does anyone have any information or experience (bad or good) with barefoot pellets? I have been buring cubex for a few years, but this year my local dealer states cubex is not doing a spring sale! Does anyone know why? The price I was quoted for a ton of cubex: $305.00. New York Area. How would you compare Cubex to Barefoot?

    Thank you

  6. david says:

I have used barefoot for two years .I think they are the best out of the ones that I have used.I like to try other kindes 6 bags at a time. LG and Fireside are not so bad. I don’t like Blaze,Naturesheat,CleanEnergy, pennington or I dust tested Allegheny too much soot had to crank up the burn air for them. I hope this helps you.I also think the price is out in left field at $280 to $310 a ton

  7. David says:

    Folks,

I have used Barefoot Pellets from Try, pa. and I highly recommend them. They are a true hardwood pellet with very low fines and give a great amount of heat. I had used Dry Creek pellets, before. While the Drt Creeks are a good pellet, as well, I believe that the barefoots are slightly better.

  8. guy says:

I’ve used LG, Appling, Pennington and now Barefoot.

Barefoot are the best so far, good heat, very low ash and clinkers.

LG had more ash and little less heat. I didn’t have deposit/clinker buildup like yo had. Would use again if price was right.

Pennington had good heat, lots of ash. Not bad in a pinch.

Appling pellets were the worst so far, dirty burn-lots of deposits/clinkers and good deal of ash. Would not recommend. However, I’ve heard that different batches of these pellets perform quite a bit differently, so possible Mine came from a bad batch. I would like to get your opinion once you start burning them.

I have a Harman XXV stove

    • Kevin says:

I’ve used Appling (APC), PA pellets, and am now going to try Barefoot. Appling were by far the worst pellets, PA pellets were a good pellet but not as much heat.

  9. Patti says:

I just ordered 5 tons of Barefoot pellets after hearing such good reviews. They ran $299/ton. Last year was our first year with a pellet stove, [Quadrafire-Mt. Vernon), and we used Pennington from Lowes and Wal-Mart.
We weren’t terribly impressed…inconsistent burn, creosote buildup, dirty glass, clinkers, auger jam problems, and lots of fines. Pennington ran $249/ton last year. Does anyone out there have a Quadrafire Mt. Vernon? If so, in your experience, what burns well in it?

    • marty says:

Dry Creek burned excellent. Pennington and another brand from Lowes had too many large pellets, more ash,and less heat. This is my 2nd pellet stove. Our 1st was a Whitfield that required more hands on. The Mt Vernon has served us well but suggest have technician twice yearly if you have a long burning season.

    • padave says:

I have a Mt. Vernon. Everything burns well in it….some pellets just produce huge amounts of ash and not much heat. I liked Barefoot and Lignetics the most (about equal). They both seemed to produce the most heat with the least ash. Since Lignetics is 240/ton and Barefoot is 247, I went with Lignetics. Worst pellets I used last year were Clean Fire and Appleton.

    • lish says:

I have a Mt.Vernon.Okanagan worked great for us.

    • Kevin says:

I have a mt vernon also, This is my third year with it and i have previously used Appling(APC) and PA pellets. PA pellets were an ok burn, but not the best. APC were terrible and I would never recommend them. They were dirty, terrible heat and very inconsistent. Many people I know have used barefoot and that is what I’m going with this year. They appear to be the best out there.

    • tom n says:

i have the same pellet stove as you ( quadrafire Mt Vernon ) this will be my 3rd winter i’ve only burned Dry Creek, and was very happy with them but now my dealer says they went out of bus. and are getting bearfoot instead. I’m reading some good feedback about these pellet, but because i’m buying late, the price is 305 deliverd ( 5 ton ). What a great stove we have, keep warm, Tom N

    • wiseguy says:

I just burned a bag of Cleanfire..I thought they burned clean and threw good heat. I own a Quadrafire Mount Vernon.

  10. suzanne bonneau says:

harmon stove, better to pipe straight out low or put in an elbow and pipe out up and up?s thank you, suzanne please reply and email deerhunter.bonneau@gmail.com

    • Mike says:

Re. installing your Harman, it’s personal preference + zoning/building regs. + (in my opinion) whether or not the wall your going through is on the windward side of your house. I put a Harman P43 in my family room last year and when planning, I looked at a few existing installations in this area (Mass.). People who ran straight out with just the little curved pipe end tended to have discoloration on their siding if the wall was windward — some pretty ugly. I put the P43 in a 1 story family room that’s on the windward side of a 2 story building. I ran directly out from the stove to a T on the outside that converted the 3″ to 4″ pipe. You don’t see any pipe unless you look around the side of the stove. Then I ran up 20 feet to clear the roof line. If power goes out, there’s still a draft in the pipe and there’s no soot/discoloration on any siding. Running up on the inside, and then out, is strictly a visual choice w/ a pellet stove. There’s really not much heat that you can reclaim from the exposed interior pipe. And if you’re going to run up again after the pipe is outside the wall, you’re just adding another curve to the air flow that isn’t really recommended for drafting.

      • Dan says:

Mike, do you like your Harman P43 so far? I’m thinking about purchasing one and would really appreciate some feedback.

  11. Randy says:

Used one ton of Barefoot and one ton of Pennington last year. Started out with Barefoot and they were great – low ash, high heat. Tried Pennington and they were the opposite, absolute junk; very high ash, dirty, low heat, hard starting. I ended up having to mix the Barefoot with the Pennington ~50/50 to use the Pennington. Trying Kentucky Kernel this year, it is what’s available locally. My pellet stove was installed new last year – St Croix.

  12. Eric says:

I didn’t like the Penningtons either… clumpy much ash. Bought a few bags of Pikes Pellet … will be trying them out.

Harmon Accentra insert brochure says you will only have to clean the ash tray after one ton of pellets. But the real answer is once a week you have to clean the tray if you’re burning 1.5 bags a day (24/hours). That’s about 10 bags a week… far from one ton. False advertising?

    • matt says:

i also have a harmon accentra insert. i have to clean the ashpan about every week also. nowhere near a ton of pellets. i dont know where they got that info from but it is extremely far off.

  13. Rick says:

Reside in Rhode Island and pelletdirect.com is offering Barefoot at $289 ton.
I have been burning Appling County Pellets for two years and reasonably happy – costs $269 and is 8,200 BTU and less than 1% ash.

Is Barefoot worth the extra $$$ and how does it compare to BTU and Ash?
Is there any other way to compare pellets for an apple/apple comparison?
    Thanks!

    • david says:

I burned 2 tons of Bearfoot from pelletsdirect last year they were verry good. I think I paid $249 but I think at octobers $299/now novembers $289 /oil’s $2.23 per gal last week is it worth it.I picked up 2 ton’s of Neweangland in may for $269 from Fireplaceshowcase just used 10 bags so far they seem to burn hot but lots of ash.I have burned every kind I could find in any store the best was Barefoot. I hope this helps you out.

      • Rick says:

Thanks David. Yesterday went to Ash Away in Dartmouth and bought a bag of New England to test. I read mixed reviews here re New England and may just go with Barefoot as you suggest. Recently tested Bayou sold at Portsmouth Agway and find that it does not generate much heat.

      • mike says:

where did you find oil for 2.23

    • Walter says:

Where are you purchasing the Barefoot pellets. Just brought a harmon insert. Was using NEWP. Brought some bags of Pennington, lots of sawdust, not happy, I like to return them.

    • scott says:

Hey Rick, i’m putting in an order with Maine Pellets. Im in NK and am going to purchase 20 ton. I have a fork lift and the place to off load, The more I purchase the lower the price. I can store 40 ton. Do you have any intrest in being part of this purchase.
      Let me know
      Scott

    • Dan says:

Burned 1 ton of Appling County and thought they were good until I purchased Barefoot Pellets. So far the best i’ve seen. High heat and low ash. Switched to LG this year because of a good deal I recieved. Hope they are not too far off from the quality of Barefoot. Any know?

    • mike says:

been burning barefoot for two years excellent pellet.wouldnt burn anything else.i have a quadrafire classic bay 1200 great stove so far

  14. mike says:

Barefoot Is By Far The Best Pellet That I have burned thru my breckwell P23, Very Hot Output, Very Little Ash, NO CLINKERS clean burning. VERY Happy With THE 4 TONS That I have ready for the WINTER 2009 Season.
Get The Barefoot’s You Will Be Very Happy.

  15. Jim says:

Burned Pa Pellets lots of ash etc. (bad burn, low heat, lot of ash, messy)
Tryed Barefoot for the 1st Time on 11-26-09
Cleaned up the inside of the stove of soot etc.
Burns hot, even flame, not messy at all.
So far 4 1/2 star rating.
Going to burn more that will tell the story.
I am sure we will burn Bare foot for the season.
May be they can take the price down some.
    Per bag and pallet.

    Thanks

I have 4 tons In my Basement And I have To Say They Are The Best Pellet That I have Burned To Date. Very Hot, Very Little If Any Fines And No Clinkers, My Breckwell P23 Stove Handles The Barefoots Very Well. Going On My Second Year and So Far Have Burned, Greenway Pellets, New England Wood And Now Barefoots.

  17. bryan says:

i have not had a good experience with the barefoot pellets at all in my quadra fire castile stove. last year was my first year with a pellet stove and i bought 2 tons of blazer pellets made in or from home depot, and they were great very low ash and clean up. i burn about a bag a day and would only have to clean the pot out once every 7-10 days. i couldn’t get them this year so i did some research and decided to get the barefoots this year and i hate them, i have to clean the stove every 2 days or it wont start up because the pot is clogged up with clinkers, the window ashes up after a few hours ,they jammed up the auger motor from all of the dust and lots of ash build up . i am now looking around for a different brand of pellets and i am going to try and sell the ton and a half of barefoots i have left (at a loss of course). i would not recomend these pellets to anyone.

    • scott says:

I agree I have the same issues. No more barefoot for me!

    • tom says:

Yeah the Barefoot pellets burned hot, but they require lots of cleaning of the burn pot.

      • Mike says:

Try Turman hardwoods…burn clean and hot … burned 5 bags and very little ash. They are made by a hardwood flooring Co and the byproduct is vacuumed up into silos and processed into pelltes. No bark, sand, dirt or cardboard. I am currently locked into 4.5 tons of Granules LG and can only hope I made the right choice.

  18. Wayne (Thanks to our Veterans) says:

It is strange to see Bryan’s comment above. I’m a pellet newbie, but I came here to post how happy I am with the barefoot brand, and i was going to brag about getting 2 tons for $280/ton delivered. I’m new to pellets, but the barefoot have been clean and hot. I quickly found at least a few negative comments about all other brands and I hadn’t read any negative comments about Barefoot until his…2 hours after ordering mine! I’m still in the “highly recommend” column for the barefoot. I have a Harman insert and 45 days after install, I still look forward to getting home and in front of the fire.

  19. Ellen says:

This is the first year with our pellet stove and we tried Inferno which did not give good heat and a bit of ash. We needed more so I researched and Barefoot was on the high scale so we bought a ton for the rest of the season. We were excited not to have to clean the stove so often due to the reviews and information we found however; we have been disappointed with the amount of ash! We were shocked at the amount of ash compared to the other pellets. The heat is great but the soot and glass covering within hours is a real drag.

  20. scott says:

I find the barefoot pellets are very low ash but they crust up in the grate and cause problems with the pellets overflowing into the stove! I have used Dry Creek in the past and am going back to them I would prefer a little more ash and no crusting in the grate!

  21. admin says:

It seems like the people with the most problems are using a drop pellet stove. Is this correct?

  22. Ernie says:

I sell both pellets and stoves…..there is a world of difference in pellets…..you just get what you pay for…..if you shop for price alone expect to get poor quality…..and will wish you had shopped quality instead…….i sell Lignetics (1% ash) and Hamer super premium (1/2% ash). Both are good quality products…….

In 2008-2009 there was a shortage of pellets on the east coast…….we had pellets shipped in from other manufactures out of state and they were poor and lots of headaches, ash, and clinkers!!….both manufactures claimed they were hard wood, low ash, and burned hot, but they did not deliver!!……but our clients were happy to have heat as many rely 100% on pellets for heat…….but disappointed with their performance……some drove over 1 1/2 hours to get pellets for heat….

This season (2009-2010) they all are glad we can once again obtain our usual premium brands……….NOTE…if there is no PELLET INSTITUTE membership, seal and information box on the bag, you are buying a pig-in-a-poke…….you have no idea what is in the bag!!……..

Once the euphoria of the low price fades, the depression of poor quality sets in……..

I sell only pellet stove’s and must stress buy the the best you will always be happy. If you go to lowes one out of five brands they have will be good. Find a dealer with good pellet .

    • Rosie says:

      Ernie,
You crack me up! do you have any idea what it means to have Pellet fuel institute on your bag? Absolutly nothing

There is no regulation or testing by them at all ever!

If you want there name on your bag send them $5000.00 and put it on the bag. Did you know that is the only requirement?

Seems crazy to me to pay that money just to put PFI on your bag.
Don’t believe me call them they are happy to tell you what it means to have PFI on your bag. You are a member of there club nothing more nothing less.

I was shocked when I figured this out also!!!!

      • Mike says:

Actually, I just checked the PFI website, and a Pellet Manufacturer, just joining the PFI the cost is 50% discount off 0-1M$ level sales membership charge of $2000. In other words, they fill out the form with $1000 check and they’re permitted to print the PFI logo on the bags. It could be bags of rabbit food as long as they register and pay.

  23. Jeff says:

I am a new be and have had my St. Croix stove a few weeks, purchased Hamers Hot Ones and they seem to put out good heat and low ash. I am trying a couple of bags of PA pellets now and they seem to not put as much heat out…anyone else have this or know more about PA pellets? I am going to purchase a ton of Barefoots next week to compare. My stove is a top load and they drop down into the pot, should these pellets work well? Will I have to do some adjusting?. Thanks

  24. Ben says:

I purchased 24 ton of Barefoot in 2007 they burnt well but a fair amount of creosote build up.

  25. D K Taliaferro says:

HELP! I live in the midwest and am trying to find the best pellets for use in my Harman Accentra 2 stove. I’ve been using OHP brand pellets and they have become simply so bad they are unuseable. Despite calls to the company with complaints they have yet to correct problems in their products. They are a local company and I would like to support them, but will no longer do so. If anyone has a stove like mine I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. THANKS!

  26. Sue says:

Stay away from “Pa. Pellets”.. They are JUNK.. The heat they produce is very miminal to what other pellets put out.. Been down that road..

  27. Mike Dwyer says:

I’m very surprised at 80%+ of the Barefoot reviews on this site. I bought 4 tons of Barefoot at the beginning of the Massachusetts season (based primarily on reviews like the ones here) but now I’m excited at the prospect that they’ll all finally be gone in about 2 weeks. Incredible build up of near-clunker masses in the burn pot, the ash bin fills twice as fast as any previous brand, and probably worst of all, Barefoot turns the glass nearly opaque with ash within a week after cleaning. They’ve been a nightmare. This is my second season with a pellet stove (Harman P43). I used primarily Green Supreme last season and would have gone with that again if I could have found it. I have no idea why my experience has been so much worse, but it certainly has. I’d suspect the stove itself if I hadn’t started the season with about 800 lbs. of Green Supreme and had no problem at all till I started feeding in Barefoot. Also, about 8 bags had what I suspect was water damage and 1/2 the pellets in them were swollen and powdery. They clumped together so I could scoop them out before using — but who knows, maybe they were the good pellets in the 4 tons.

    • steve says:

      Mike,
Greene Supreme is now Dragon Mountain, relabeled after NEWP stopped carrying it. Cypress Pacific is the distributer. Dragon Mountain is the cleanest pellet on the market and ranked about 6th or 7th in heat output.

We retail Okanagan and Dragon Mountain along with Somerset.

I just got through burning 2 tons of LG (they were ok, good heat, medium ash) and am now working my way through a ton of Barefoot. 1st time with the Barefoot and I can not get over how much heat they throw. I have to keep the heat settings on the stove much lower otherwise the house gets too hot!! I strongly recommend the Barefoot pellets!!!
**Another very good product is Country Boy pellets but they are very $$ and not readily available.
**Also have burned Appling in the past and I agree with all other comments, they are the worst

I own a harman xxv pellet stove 2nd yr, i recently lost power and got strong smell of smoke backing into house
from burn chamber, the pipe goes straight out of the house
spoke to installer and he sugested put a elbow on it and
run 3ft pipe up for a natural flow.
has this happend to anyone and does the pipe extension
sound like good idea? any help or ideas would be appr.
thinking about small generator too as back up.

    • david says:

I think your stove runs off a electric blower so if you lost power the smoke would stay in the stove.I hear some stoves have a battery back up.

    • Perry says:

We have a Harmon Acentra free standing model. Last year was our 1st season. During the ice storm we lost power for the first time and it smoked ou the house. It was exhausted the same way, straight out the wall. After the storm the power went out several times and each time it was overwhelming. Over the summer I attached and elbow and a vertical run of 6 ft which took car of the problem. If only I paid more attention to the installation manual, it suggest a min. 5 ft vertical run exactly for this reason.

      • Liberty biomass says:

YOU could add fresh air and give the smoke somewhere to go also would make your stove 20-30 percent more efficent and your house warmer by not pulling air from the room for the burn thus pulling cold air from any cracks or drafts you might have but a 3ft rise of pipe will also work as not to exceed the footage limit on three inch pipe.remeber you can only have fifteen feet and each ninety is five foot.

        • Marcel says:

Good comment on the 90 degree Els ! I bought a back up power source at Best Buy for about $69. Works good for about 1 1/2 Hrs. If your not at home when the power goes out then vertical piping is your best bet. As far as the generator solution unless you have the generator that starts automatically when the power goes out, by the time you manually hook up your generator your house smells like smoke. I know that from experience. I own a Harmon Acentra.

Ive come to believe that the only way to compare pellet quality is by yourself. as you can see here many different opinions about the same products. SAtoves seem to burn pellets differently even different people with the same staove can get different results! I have a Breckwell P23 and i love it its totally “Bullet Proof” as they state. I half way through 2 tons of Barefoot as of this post and although i heard great things about them i am not so impressed! They are low in fines and dust and burn fairly hot BUT… there is a heavier ash load and the ash is black and course like sand. The glass blackend after i bag and i must clean out the cup frequently due to solid clunkers covering the air holes. Ive tried many brands and the best ive used “For Me” was GreenTeam from Pennsylvania. they were sold by Lowes in Long Island in 2008 and I cannot find them anywhere nearby since. I contacted the Co. and they didnt have any orders in local Lowes this year. I will definitaley look harder this summer for the next season. They burn Hot with no clunkers I mean none at all! the pot is as clean at the end of a burn as when you start the glass stays clear and the ash is whiteish greay and like talc powder and not much of it at all. you might want to try a few bags if u find them and if you know of any distributor on Long Island NY please let me know!

    Good Luck!

I am having 2 wood pellet fireplace inserts installed by end of 9/2010. My installer recommened barefoot wood pellets. I need to know where I can purchase about 2 tons in my area which is Pocono Summit, Pa. 18346? I want to purchase these pellets now if I can.

    Thank You

    • Kevin says:

I am from Tunkhannock, PA and there are a few places to purchase Barefoot pellets in my area. In Montrose there is Tall Pines Farms and they are 249/ton and in Tunkhannock there is Fireplace gallery and they are 230/ton.

I live in lewisburg pa and just bought a ton of barefoot pelletts for $228.00 a ton (for next year) from coles hareware, on thursday check the net for Coles hardware and give them a call and the can point you in the right direction. I hope they burn well.

  33. Christopher says:

I have always preferred Barefoot pellets… but has anyone have any feedback on PA pellets?

    • James says:

I had problems with PA pellets last year. They apparently had a problem with their cutter and pellets were various lengths up to 2 3/4 to 3″ at times. I contacted the company and they replaced 4 tons for my use this year. They have replaced their cutter so I’m hoping that this batch will be better. They arrived today and look better than last year’s. There are a few that are still over 1 1/2″, but I think they will work fine in one of my stoves. The other stove…..well…..I may just snag some Dry Creek or Barefoot for that one. Had too many issues with long pellets and the auger and feed…..don’t want all those cold nights and repair bills this year. Hopefully the PA’s will do well in the second stove. At least I can vouch for the fact that the company is trying to make this right and that’s a big plus.

    • Kevin says:

I’ve used PA pellets and they are an ok product. I have friends that use Barefoot and Lignetics. They each swear by their respective type, however, I noticed the barefoot to burn a little better that the Lig. and I’m giving them a try. PA pellets compared to Barefoot and Lignetics is like comparing a Hyundai and a Toyota. The Hyundai will do everything that needs to be done and do it pretty efficiently, but the Toyota will do it better and more efficient.

Have been using a pellet stove, for supplimental heat, for the past 10+ years. Barefoot are the best we have ever used; cleanest buring and the most heat. Local suppliers run out often, so buy early to meet your winter needs.

I used to 2 tons last year 2009 – 2010. not 1 problem. So I bought another 2 tons for the 2010 – 2011 season. I have nothing but problems. High ash everyday I have to vacuum the stove out. Plus after 4 to 5 hours of the stove burning the burnt pellets when not creating high ash turn into a charcoal type substance. The pellets start to bounce all over the inside of the stove. Now the flame is huge & I’m thinking dangerous because the whole inside of the stove has a flame.

I am experiencing the same issue with burnpot. No
Problems last year with bearfoot. It seems when the
Stove cranks due to very cold outdoors is the worst.
Requiring me to scrape the burnpot, couple times a day.
Appears theres more white ash this year, attaching itself
All over the inside of the stove. Lots of longs this time
Some 2″ pellets. I thought it was just me. But, man these
Produce heat. Will continue to monitor the board for others
That may have noticed a change this year. 2010-2011 season.

I run a Bixby 115 and it doesn’t like crappy pellets. Pennington jammed it about every 2 days. Lignetics ran well but had a lot of long (1 1/2 to 2 inches) pellets. Barefoot have run flawlessly. Low ash, good heat output, it’s the best pellet that I’ve used. Highly recommend them especially to Bixby users.

dose any one here of americanwood fiber wood pellets i just bought a ton for 210 but they only last for 10 hrs with the same settings othre burned for 22hrs what is going on help

    • Jack says:

The same settings is the problem. I would say probley the AMF pellets are smaller in size so they fill your auger faster than the longer Barefoot pellets. Turn your feed rate down and see how they burn.

just remember when buying barefoot they make there pellets from hardwood floor scraps from there primary business so if they want to expand there pellet business they would have to change everything about how they make there pellets or they will run out if flooring is slow. so keep in mind the more business they get the less cahnce of getting there pellets…

Stay away from Bare Foot pellets. I got them from a local distributor in Long Island, NY. These pellets are very dense, even thought you get 40 LB in the bag, volumetrically each bag is only 2/3 of a regular bag. Heat level was the lowest I have experienced with five other brands that I used in my 3 seasons using my stove. There are better products out there, choose wisely.

I is because they are very dense that you may have had a problem. A cure for a dense pellet is high burn pot air flow and low pellet feed rate. Cubex, Hamer Hot Ones, Barefoot, and many other high quality pellets need the same thing. Once the stove is set up for them they can really throw off heat. Also not every stove can burn high density pellets I had to modify my Quad to get a real good burn.

This is my 14th season with a pellet stove, a Breckwell P23. Over the years I’ve tried many different brands of pellts … Lignetics,Energex,Appling County,Hammers,Tree Cycle and numerous bags on a trial basis from Lowes,Home Depot and Wal-Mart. The best for me,by far,are Barefoots … high heat, low ash,no clinkers in the burn pot and easy to light. Some issues could be in the stove brand, not saying any brand is bad or good but perhaps each stove runs a little differently or it could be the settings on the stove itself {i.e. airflow vent setting}. I like Barefoots, work well for me.
