Reside in Rhode Island and have been using Appling County Pellets (8,200 BTU/less than 1% Ash/Moisture .5-8%) for $269. Reasonably happy but wondering about other options for higher BTU and lower ASH. Any info is greatly appreciated

Check to see if you have a Souther States store nearby (kinda like a Tractor Supply). They sell premium pellets this season (09-10) for 249.99 a pallet and charge $40 for delivery.

Stay away from Pike Hard Wood Pellets that are sold by Long Island Pellet Fuel, 635 Pulaski Road, Greenlawn, NY.. The Pike Pellets are loaded with bark and leave much too much ash.
The best pellets around on LI are Country Boy White Lightening Oak pellets. You can burn them all day and you won't get enough ash to fill the palm of your hand. You can get them from LI Wood Pellet Supply, 19 Chyam Street, North Babylon, NY ... 631 243-1034

I have to agree that country boy pellets are the best I ever used. I don't trust Lowe's and Home Depot, they seem to sell mostly junk pellets. Go to a good dealer that knows what kind of pellets they are selling.
